Dubai licence plate auction breaks all records as BB12 sold for Dh9.66 million
Ninety exclusive plates offered across multiple alphanumeric codes
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recorded the highest revenue in the history of its distinctive vehicle number plate auctions, with total proceeds reaching Dh109,026,000.
The milestone was achieved during the authority’s 120th open auction, held on Saturday. The event attracted intense bidding as participants competed for highly sought-after plate numbers carrying symbolic and prestige value.
Record-breaking bids
Plate number BB12 emerged as the most expensive sale of the evening, fetching Dh9.66 million. It was followed by AA25, which sold for Dh8.04 million, while BB30 secured Dh6.74 million and CC100 was sold for Dh4.21 million.
The results marked an unprecedented peak in auction revenues since RTA began offering distinctive number plates through public bidding.

A total of 90 distinctive vehicle number plates were offered during the auction, featuring two, three, four and five-digit combinations. The plates were drawn from a wide range of codes, including AA, BB, CC, K, N, O, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. The auction was held at the Al Joud Ballroom at Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City, with proceedings beginning at 4:30 pm.
Registration for the auction opened on 22nd December. Participants were able to register online via RTA’s website, at Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha, or directly at the auction venue. Priority access was granted to bidders who completed registration in advance.
Participation conditions
All number plate sales were subject to a 5 percent value-added tax. To participate, bidders were required to hold a valid traffic file in the Emirate of Dubai and submit a security cheque worth Dh25,000, payable to RTA. A non-refundable participation fee of Dh120 was also required, with payments accepted at Customer Happiness Centres and via credit card through RTA’s digital platforms.
RTA stated that its open and electronic auction framework is based on principles of neutrality and transparency, ensuring equal opportunities for all bidders seeking to acquire distinctive vehicle number plates.
